Matt Barbot is a very imaginative writer who understands how to make complicated issues digestible for young people- literally digestible! Matt uses food to talk about diversity, language, culture, and ethnicity!! This is such a genius concept and it's fun to read. Food is truly universal and it has a unifying effect on all of us, no matter who we are. Children and families will appreciate this story, and will become more curious about new experiences as a result! Loved, loved, loved this.
  • AZTEC PIRATES & THE INSIGNIFICANCE OF LIFE ON MARS
    13 Feb. 2021
Wow, my heart. This play hits me deeply because of how relevant it is with America's immigration policies and how they can psychologically impact the human beings involved with the atrocities that are often enforced without will. Davila introduces a new point of view that is heartbreaking and thought-provoking. The structure of this play keeps us guessing and at the edge of our seats. Highly theatrical, this piece also moves swiftly like a film. This is an important play you must experience.
  • Into The River I Went

This play is captivating right as soon as it opens! Nelson Diaz-Mercano creates a dark and mystical world that explores the magic of Latina culture and the societal divisions that plague our culture as well. The women in this story are powerful forces to reckon with and their strength becomes more evident when the men are gone. The theatricality in this play is visceral and creative- a designer's dream! Nelson's use of language is direct and surprises you every time. He keeps you on your toes!! I would love to see this happen on stage.
  • Even Flowers Bloom in Hell, Sometimes

I experienced this play during the Austin Latino New Play Festival of 2019 and was immediately transported into a world that is timeless, raw, and true. The structure of this play is absolutely unique, like a soundtrack. The musicality is undeniable, with a rhythm that flows from beat to beat. I was personally invested because Gonzalez highlights what many of us (people of color) experience living in this country - the continuous battle against a racially biased system that was created to economically, and humanitarianly, keep us down.
  • The Prize, a twisted Horror Play in four acts
    1 Apr. 2020
This play is truly thrilling! There are very few plays that I've read that can pull off horror and suspense. "The Prize" accomplishes everything you need in a horror play: mystery, suspense, plot twists, surprises, sexiness, rawness, and entertainment. It's a story about class, money, and status- some of the scariest things on this planet that threaten humanity everyday.
