Serena Norr is a writer, playwright, and founder of Let’s Make a Play, a playwriting program for kids and adults. Her plays have been performed at the Omaha Fringe Festival, White Plains Performing Arts Center, the New Deal Creative Arts Center, Westchester Collaborative Theater, the Tank, The Players Theater with the Rogue Theater Festival and the NYC Short Play Festival, the University of Alabama as well as various productions over Zoom. She is a recent second-rounder at the Austin Film Festival for her full-length play, “Agency for the Lost.”

Her play “OTHER” was recently published in Theatre Unbound’s “Bittersweet” Monologue Collection and “Zoom Like No One is Watching” was published in the “UNTITLED COVID SHORT PLAY ANTHOLOGY” by Flower Song Press. "Cut Out Fam" will be published in ellipsis... literature & art Drama in April 2023.

During COVID, 15 of her plays received a Zoom production, such as “The Dividing Demons” performed with Primary Stages, "The Bookstore" performed with Westchester Collaborative Theater, “Zoom Like No One is Watching” performed with Sister Shakes for the Show Must Go Online Play festival and B Street Theatre's New Play Brunch, to name a few productions.

Her monologues, "It's the Michelle Jennings Show," "Waiting and Wanting, "Mama, Can You Hear Me? "Deep in Night Thoughts," "Behind the Bars" and “Zoom-A-Ference 2022" was performed with Vintage Soul Productions. Recently, her short "Secrets & Lies" was a part of The Queans Theatre REPRESENT festival, her full-length "The Demise of Baby Johnson" was showcased through the Dramatists Guild's DG Footlights Series, "Purdy's" was a part of the Omaha Fringe Festival, and her plays “Morning Ritual” “Zoom Like No One is Watching” was performed as a part of Rogue Theater Festival. Additionally, "$5 dollah, $5 dollah" was performed at the Short Play Festival and "The Rainbow Method" was performed with the New Deal Creative Arts Center.

She is also a member of the Dramatists Guild, Westchester Collaborative Theater, Cut Edge Collective (NYC), a participant of the 2021 Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive, and a participant of the Women's Theatre Festival (WTF) Directing Program.   • Morning Ritual
    VILLA is put to sleep at Morning Ritual, a seemingly peaceful retreat to help those who have undergone trauma. However, she wakes before she completes the transgressive period - causing her counselors (LUCIE and BEAM) to question her and everything they thought they knew about the science at the Ritual. With pandering and back and forth questioning, Lucie and Beam try to understand what caused Villa to wake up...

Waiting for a phone call, she thinks about who she is, covering up being an "other," and what it means to finally check that box.

    Mae has a simple life, typing memos for the "important” at Memos for the Less. Her hands, however, are suffering as she types day-after-day, sending memos up to the faceless on the 27th floor. But something is missing. Is it her dead end marriage? Or the constant messages she gets from her shallow officemate, or the lingering feeling of abandonment when her father left 36 years ago. It all seems to change...
    Mae has a simple life, typing memos for the "important” at Memos for the Less. Her hands, however, are suffering as she types day-after-day, sending memos up to the faceless on the 27th floor. But something is missing. Is it her dead end marriage? Or the constant messages she gets from her shallow officemate, or the lingering feeling of abandonment when her father left 36 years ago. It all seems to change when she goes to the Agency for the Lost, a quasi-detective firm with a founder who has a penchant for cigarettes and egg salad sandwiches, who promises to find her dad in the "lost dimension," a place everyone goes who leaves. When he comes back, or the person who she thinks is her Dad, she realizes that longing for the idea of someone isn’t exactly the same idea as the actual person. As her hands and body continue to weaken, she learns from her dad (who may or may not be her dad) that there is another way. A place where she doesn't have to follow the rules that she doesn't get or chase the preverbal carrot to get to the 27th floor. Will she give it all up and leave like her father, or stick around and finally feel "found"?

Dale, however, is distracted and wants the bag that she was...

    It's the year 2035 and the world is perfect, or so it seems. DR. HETTA JACOBS is not convinced that Earth Cure, a solvent to clean the earth and the water is actually doing that.
  • Cut Out Fam
    Sue’s secret to creating the perfect family is simple: cut them out of magazines and pretend they are real. As she retreats to her world of play to escape the chaos of her real world, she loses a grasp of reality, finding it harder to tell her real family from the one she created.

    It's been years since BILLO and MAE have seen each other. They are both surprised when they see each other across the street from one another. On opposite sides of the street, they scream to try to catch up and slowly inch closer and closer as they connect about what was, and maybe what life can be.

During their short chat, they share revelations about kids, death, work, love, and lust, as they try to understand each other and themselves. Forging an unlikely bond through dance, they start to peel off their layers and perhaps start to feel a little less lonely until reality strikes.

  • That Time I Met a Vampire at Mercury Lounge
    Waiting for the band The Reverence to play at Mercury Lounge, Cal strikes up a conversation with Della who seems to be waiting for a friend to join her. With a confidence that can't be placed, Cal mysteriously alludes to to his intentions but lost Della is too blind to see the darkness that's right in front of her.

    Beatrice, a world-renowned wig maker known for her craftsmanship, spends her days teaching her assistant, Mateo the craft while also making real hair wigs. When Mel, an eccentric client comes in, Mateo promises her wigs they don't make comes with the price of seeing Mel's odd world and her obsession for her kids...and what wigs they wear.

    ABBY is a young woman in her early-20s who is also the founder and CEO of Dr. Bob. A protege in the tech world, she is also troubled by the past and specifically the actions of her mother and sister that still haunt her, no matter how successful she is. She is also a bit over the top and wiry as she talks about personal aspects of her life that she never revealed before.
  • Behind the Bars
    MILLIE is a young woman in her mid-20s, who 5 years prior shot her fiance. She is now in prison, seeking counseling via a new platform, Dr. Bob, with COVID looming in the background.
  • Deep in Night Thoughts
    Julie is an anxious mom of two who often “talks” to her husband Reggie at night, though he doesn’t listen as he is asleep. This sounding board is her only way to share how she feels and process her day, and, ultimately her actions from 5 years ago.
  • Blank Canvas
    CARYS is a struggling artist who is secretly obsessed with trying to hit it big. Her boyfriend, SHAW is jovial and lighthearted but very supportive, almost to a fault who CARYS feels gets in the way of his work.
  • Secrets and Lies
    DEX and BECCA are set to get married in 3 days. They are excited to build a life together, but after a dinner with DEX’s mother, BECCA tells DEX that she is half-Black. DEX’s reaction sets the evening on a tailspin as he reveals how he really feels, and perhaps who he really is.
  • Meeting of the Minds
    BABY is a washed up teen star looking for her come back role. Her manager, RICK, is secretly obsessed with her and asks to meet in an abandoned church to discuss her next big role. When noises are heard in the church and a creepy priest arrives, Baby has to perform her biggest role yet: fight to save her life.

    The 10-minute play follows the reunion of Lucas and Rosie in a coffee shop. They recently broke up and Rosie wanted to meet to get back some of her old possessions. Although they meet on neutral pretext, their past relationships slowly interweave into their conversation and things are said ultimately ruins one of the character's delicate ego.

A story of abandonment, hope, and love that somehow connects the unconnected.

    DEV and MARX never seem to have enough time and find themselves traveling through life -- and at various ages -- when they hear a bell and it all shifts again. Shifting from when they were older to their younger days and back again, they reflect on their lives -- and the difficulty of their dreams.

    This woman's mother is complicated. But she's figured out how to help her; how to really help her mother's mind.
  • The Run to Nowhere
    It's just another night at home where MADS is ready to settle in with a glass of wine and a self-help book when she looks around the way and sees her neighbor, BRECK running in place to nowhere. She goes on the fire escape and starts to talk to her, convincing her of the importance of running in place and tempting what is by coming over and running together, revealing their loneliness and unlikely connection.
