Owen Elphick

Owen Elphick is a writer and performer from Storrs, Connecticut, currently based in the Philadelphia area. He graduated from Emerson College with a BFA in Creative Writing. His plays and musicals have been workshopped and presented at the Eugene O'Neill Center's National Theater Institute and Emerson College. His first play, ID, was produced in 2017 at the Emerson Stage NewFest New Works Festival and the Connecticut Drama Association Festival, where it received seven awards, including Theatrical Excellence and a special award for Concept Originality. He received the EVVY Award for Outstanding Writing for the Stage in 2020 for Blend, and was nominated in 2019 for Waiting for Dodo. Waiting for Dodo and iSpy were both finalists for RareWorks Theatre Company's 2019 New Playwright’s Festival.

Synopsis

On the edge of a field, two birders meet, both hoping to spot a rare species most believe to be extinct. On the edge of a beach and a marsh, two researchers stare out at the sea, hoping to collect data. On a hill at the edge of a forest, two young lovers are on a birdwatching date, hoping to connect with each other. But the sky is empty, and no birds appear, or sing. And the forest is full of mystery...

In the play, seventeen-year-old Elle is in a virtual relationship that she has been keeping a secret from everyone in her life, including her boyfriend. As Elle's secret begins to come out and her world unravels around her, the director must...

In the play, seventeen-year-old Elle is in a virtual relationship that she has been keeping a secret from everyone in her life, including her boyfriend. As Elle's secret begins to come out and her world unravels around her, the director must contend with his actors, who keep mysteriously malfunctioning, while the world he has created unravels before him.
