Denmo Ibrahim (she/her) is an American playwright, actor, screenwriter, and children’s book author of Egyptian descent whose work spans theatre, film, and literature. A multidisciplinary storyteller, she specializes in narrative-driven and documentary-style works that explore identity, diaspora, memory, and belonging. Her plays include Arab Spring, BABA, A Country Made of Salt, and Mede’a | A Retelling. She is a founding co-artistic director of Mugwumpin, an award-winning performance company in San Francisco, and a resident artist at Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company devoted to the Middle East.
Described by Forbes as creating “the kind of full-immersive experience you get in some of the world’s most innovative museums,” Denmo’s work has been developed and produced by Audible, Round House Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, Noor Theatre, The Civilians R&D Series, Amphibian Stage, Shotgun Players, Alter Theatre, and Crowded Fire. As an actor, she has performed on major regional stages including Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Old Globe, Seattle Repertory Theatre, American Conservatory Theater, and California Shakespeare Theater. Internationally, she has toured to festivals in Cairo, Berlin, and France.
Her debut children’s book, Zaynab’s Night of Destiny, tells the story of a young Muslim girl navigating grief, migration, and belonging. Set in a world of wonder and imagination, the story is grounded in faith, with Islamic tradition serving as a source of clarity, resilience, and inner light. Commissioned by Commonwealth Theatre Center and supported by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, the project included an audio-immersive adaptation and a cultural workshop for middle school students exploring Arab heritage and personal narrative. The piece marks Denmo’s first full-length work for young audiences.

A two-time recipient of the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award and Theatre Bay Area Award and shortlisted for Princess Grace Award, the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, SPACE at Ryder Farm, and Sundance Theatre Lab.
