Cynthia SoRelle holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance, where she dissertated under the mentorship of Oscar G. Brockett. She served as a Board member of LMDA from 2005 to 2015 and as Board Chair from 2009 to 2015, during which the Bly Creative Capacity Grants were founded, and is a founding member of the LMDA Lessing Circle. She has dramaturged more than 130 plays and operas (including 7 years with a professional opera company) and served as Resident Dramaturg for McLennan Theatre and Full Professor until retiring in 2021. She is a member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, for which she served as Dramaturgy Conference Planner, Focus Group Chair, and Nominations Chair. She was KCACTF Region VI Coordinator for dramaturgy competition for two years and workshop presenter on multiple occasions. She has served as a play reader for Minneapolis Playwrights Center and has written for the playwrights volume of the Dictionary of Literary Biography. She has served on numerous Texas Educational Theatre Association committees and workshops, including four years on the TETA Board of Directors. As a certified clinician, she has adjudicated more than 140 performance festivals and is recipient of the 2000 TETA Founder's Award for “outstanding contributions to theatre in Texas” as well as the 2015 TETA College Educator of the Year award.
