Lila Perlman

Lila Perlman is a Seattle-bred, NYC-based playwright, actor and devised theatre maker. She was the 2024 and 2022 Playwright in Residence with Letter of Marque Theater, and is a founding member of Soft Brain Theatre Co, a modern-day Commedia Dell'Arte troupe. Lila's short play "The Golem and the Maharal’s Wife" was awarded second place nationally from the 2020 Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival.

Based on a Jewish folktale, the story follows a young female Golem, a creature shaped from clay and bound to obey her maker's commands, who finds herself alone for the first time in her life and craving freedom. The wife of the man who made the golem finds herself faced with the decision whether to help the creature find that freedom--and perhaps find her own.
