Brim is miserable. After an accident several years ago, wherein he saved a boy's life but was hit by a car, the once-star athlete is now confined to a wheelchair. After his best friend Hank discovers him in the midst of a half-hearted suicide attempt, Brim decides that the key to his happiness is to reconnect with the boy he saved. Enlisting the help of his former girlfriend, Jamie, he discovers that the (now teenaged) boy, Ernie, is in jail for murder. Despite his friends urging him to let it go, Brim remains determined to find out exactly how Ernie's life, as well as his own, could have gone so wrong.
