Aniello Fontano is an award winning playwright, screenwriter, and educator originally from Little Italy, Chicago. He earned his MFA in Dramatic Writing at the University of New Mexico while fulfilling teaching and graduate assistantships in Dramatic Writing and Women’s Studies. Currently, he is working on a series of plays titled, "how to carry immense weight, or windy’s cycle." In 2023, he was the recipient of the Clifford Odets Ensemble Play Commission by the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, wherein he wrote the second play in the series, "i’m sorry for your trouble." Directed by Ben Villegas Randle, the play received its world premiere at the Marilyn Monroe Theater in New York. The fourth play in the series, "the worker", should be completed and looking for a home later this year. In addition to his theatrical work, he is developing a television series with Aaron Kaplan at Kapital Entertainment inspired by the book Three Ordinary Girls: The Remarkable Story of Three Dutch Teenagers Who Became Spies, Saboteurs, Nazi Assassins--and WWII Heroes. After serving as the Associate Board Events Chairman, he continues to support BUILD Chicago (a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side) whenever possible. He is a proud member of IATSE Chicago 476, IATSE Los Angeles 871, The Dramatists Guild, and SAG-AFTRA. He continues to be mentored by director Jude Weng (Only Murders in the Building, The Good Place, Twisted Metal).
