Kendra Phillips

Kendra is an emerging playwright based in the Seattle area. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, she has a BMA and BFA in acting/directing. A recent MFA graduate of University of Idaho, Kendra works as a literary assistant with Northwest Playwrights Alliance (NPA) and has facilitated numerous ten-minute play contests and festivals in the Puget Sound Region. She is also a member of Vashon Repretory Theatre.

Most recently, her new play about Margot Frank, Her Sister received a reading over Zoom at the University of Idaho. Her ten-minute play, Pancakes and Eggs: Greek God's in a Diner, was also performed over Zoom last spring. Other past productions include: Deep Calls (University of Idaho), A Christmas Carol (University of Idaho), Family Game Night: an a cappella musical (Artist Trust GAP grant supported reading with NPA, production at Western Washington University), and Tads - adaptation of a play by Eva Suter (Theatre Arts Olympia/NPA).

Previously she has worked as an educator and music director for the Mercer Island based Youth Theatre Northwest, teaching young actors from kindergarten to eighth grade. In 2015 she was invited to participate in a writers co-op retreat sponsored by HBMG Foundation and Creede Repretory Theatre.

Synopsis

A recent arrest for prostitution has put Carson in a safe house with a woman annoyingly insistent that she work through her experiences. Unable to face her life head on, Carson writes a fairy tale journey with a sweet-talking porcupine, smart-ass woodland creatures, and a perilous search for something that was stolen from her years ago.
