When Fr. Nathan arrives at Central Catholic, a midwestern parochial high school, he views it as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to teach the gospel to young people in the West and a chance to climb the ladder of the Roman Catholic hierarchy in the United States.

Fr. Nathan meets his colleague, Sr. Pat, a quietly liberal late-career nun and the students of her Advanced Theology Seminar: Third-wave uber-feminist Agnes, and Catholicism-obsessed (but, isn’t he gay?) Luke.

Amir, a transfer from the Detroit area, begins praying Salat in the high school chapel and dating Agnes. Luke begins the probing process of applying for the Catholic seminary. Agnes deals with the tragedy of her mother’s untimely death, an unexpected pregnancy, and her sudden stint of popularity.

The Roman Catholic Rosary, a beaded series of prayers and meditations on the life and death of Jesus, provides the structure for this play about a small town Catholic school and what happens when conflicting worldviews collide with tradition, dogma, and ambition.

As the five characters wind their way through these five mysteries of Jesus’ last days on earth, they are forced to confront their relationship with the Church and one another.
