Leslie Gauthier

Leslie is an artist who writes, sings, performs, and takes photos. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times and Paste Magazine. Previous residencies include SPACE on Ryder Farm in 2017 and 2019, and CourCommune in Voulx, France, also in 2019. Leslie is a Playwriting MFA candidate at Brooklyn College and recent recipient of the Rona Jaffe Fellowship for creative writing.

Leslie graduated from Fordham University at Lincoln Center where she double majored in Acting & Directing and graduated with honors. While at Fordham she traveled to Paris with NYU to study Contemporary French Theater, participated in the apprenticeship program at the Williamstown Theater Festival, and studied at MXAT in Moscow, Russia.

Leslie has performed in numerous plays, readings and short films including Stop the Virgens (St. Ann's Warehouse), The Turn of the Screw (David Rubenstein Atrium-Lincoln Center) and Madame de Sade (Columbia Grad). She has also performed with Target Margin Theater & Clubbed Thumb. Her short film, “The Astronaut Hour” was recognized by the International Independent Film Awards in 2019 and won numerous awards in 2021 including “Best Short Film,” “Best Screenplay” and “Best Actress” from Manhattan Rep’s Stories Film Festival.

Synopsis

A memory play with music (trying to be) contained in the laws of quantum theory. When Girl 1 meets Girl 2, it's as though life begins. But as first love coincides with a life-threatening (and infantilizing) diagnosis, affection, queerness and mortality entangle Girl 1 in a years-long, reality-altering journey.
