Man this play hurt so good. I found myself highlighting line after line, as the script resonated with my industry frustrations. The characters are real and relatable. The play within a play within a play structure allows for the perfect level of meta commentary and inside jokes. In fact, this play feels like a love letter to practitioners, even when poking fun at theatre made for an audience that "knows theater and gets it". While at times relishing in pessimism, the prevailing tone is tongue and cheek. This play manages to break open and reimagine the cannon after interrogating it.

While seemingly straight forward and simple, this play is full of delightful surprises and heart. Gardner's plays always make me chuckle and leave me with much to think about and this play definitely delivers on both accounts.
