Weston Gaylord is a playwright and librettist based in Los Angeles. He has been a member of the Geffen Writers’ Room and The Vagrancy Playwrights Group, a recipient of the Humanitas PLAY LA fellowship, and a finalist for the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference and the O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference. He is a winning playwright of the Ashland New Plays Festival 2023, and has also developed original work at the TheatreWorks Silicon Valley New Works Festival, The Vagrancy’s Blossoming Festival, and San Jose Repertory’s Emerging Artists Lab. One evening in 1983, at the height of Cold War tension, a Soviet officer in a military bunker makes the most important decision of his life. Weeks later he is interrogated by his superiors, who seek to understand: did Stanislav Petrov betray his country? Or is it possible he saved the world?

When Cass, a talented sleight-of-hand artist, approaches a group of magicians at a restaurant in hopes of becoming apprenticed to one of them, she receives an unexpected offer that challenges her feelings about her craft. The Palm of Her Hand examines the double-edged sword of personal mentorship, and the ethical choices that young sleight-of-hand practitioners face about how to use their skills of deception.
