Lori Goodman

Lori is a native New Yorker who has been writing plays on and off for over 30 years. Her work has been performed in New York City, Upstate New York, Washington D.C. and California. Her play RESERVATIONS FOR TWO was a winner of the Samuel French Short Play Festival and has been performed in the U.S. and internationally. Lori’s short play TRIBAL ATTIRE was a winner of the Two Good Dogs Festival in 2023. THE ELIZABETH INN is being performed at the New Stage Players 2025 Comedy Play Festival. Her play TOUCH was a second rounder judges’ selection at the Austin Film Festival 2021. TOUCH was produced at the Tank, NYC in 2025, was a 2025 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council grant recipient, and will be published by CO(nord Theatricals in 2026. Synopsis

Barb and her sister Joan are in a medical waiting room. The two could not be more different and their relationship is fraught. Barb is going to have a test or procedure and needs an escort. None of her friends is available and so she he asked Joan as a last resort. Barb won’t tell Joan anything about the procedure and that causes even more tension to this already tense relationship.

Synopsis

Leah, mourning the loss of her favorite Uncle Jack, tries to get her adult child and husband to adhere to the family dress code as they get ready to attend Jack's funeral. Convinced that Jack would appreciate their New Orleans style funeral attire, they try to convince Leah to break free from the tyrannical norms of the extended family. Leah is dug in until she opens a mysterious package from Jack.

Johanna, a young, economically impoverished woman finds herself pregnant in New America with no way of getting an abortion or help supporting a child . Floral Gardens is a Spa Resort for women just like Johanna. They specialize in "helping" young women with their unwanted pregnancies. But all is not what it seems at...

In New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, a small group of tenants run the affairs of their crummy coop building despite lack of money and constant run-ins with the junkies and drug dealers who surround them. The play flashes back and forth in time from the 1980s to the present to show the struggle between fighting to maintain a safe, cohesive community and cashing in as the neighborhood gentrifies...

The play flashes back and forth in time from the 1980s to the present to show the struggle between fighting to maintain a safe, cohesive community and cashing in as the neighborhood gentrifies, abandoning the people they fought alongside for so long. +I am still developing this play and would be happy to work with a company to do this as well.

Touch is a comedy that explores what it is to be alone as experienced by two generations. The play is set in southern Florida and focuses mainly on four people:

Betty, a widow, is having a difficult time adjusting to life without her husband. Her grown son Jim who lives nearby and who encourages her to meet new people, create a new life. He is a happy, single man

Bob, a widower, gets a call from his daughter...

Bob, a widower, gets a call from his daughter Anna who lives up north. She offers to come visit him while her children are on spring break with her ex-husband. Bob and Anna have a difficult relationship. Anna is still grieving the loss of her mother and her failed marriage. She hopes a vacation in the Florida sun will melt the frosty relationship with her dad and help her heal.

Touch also explores life in retirement and also returning to the dating world as a senior citizen. Two actors – one male and one female - play various roles as dates for Betty and for Bob as well as other elderly retirees.
