James Kelsey Nelson (he/him/his) is a playwright and director based in Chicago. His plays include Cambriolage (Live Arts: Waterworks Festival, Gallery Players: Black Box New Play Festival), Henchmen (Theatre Arcana: New Pages Play Competition Winner, Anglo-Irish Theatre Group: Workshop Production), Kirschgarten (Southeast Texas Festival of New Plays: Semifinalist), The Waterfall Scene (Gallery Players: Black Box New Play Festival, Meanwhile Park Playwriting Prize: Finalist), and many short works which have been produced around the country and abroad. James was formerly the Artistic Director of the Anglo-Irish Theatre Group in Tübingen, Germany, where he directed productions of Translations, Equus, The Pillowman, Romeo and Juliet, Black Comedy, and And Then There Were None. James is a teaching artist at Oil Lamp Theater, and Marketing Manager for Avalanche Theatre. He holds an MFA from Indiana University, where he directed main stage productions of Titus Andronicus and Machinal, and a BA from UMKC in his home town of Kansas City.
