Amelia Kennedy is a British-American playwright based in Brooklyn, NY. Amelia’s writing has been seen in ‘Performing History’ – a selection of original one person pieces directed by Roger Guenveur Smith. Following that, her play ‘Ask For Bukowski At The Counter’ was workshopped in New York. ‘I Keep Leaving Parties Early’ has been performed at The EstroGenius Short Play Festival, The Tank and most recently, Concord Theatricals 50th Annual Off Off Broadway Festival – as one of thirty plays selected to be performed. ‘Why Must We Pray Screaming?’ was presented at The Dramatists Guild Foundation and further progressed as a part of Re/Venue at Bechdel Project in March 2025. As the evening becomes continuously tense with old attractions and old resentments resurfacing, the characters explore the possibilities of what it is to love in our modern age, and also begin to question living in New York and if all the sacrifices that come with pursuing a creative life in the city is worth it. ‘This Is How I Love’ is a play about how we betray so much of ourselves in the pursuit of success in both career and love. It’s a play about the devastating human tendency to have what we desire in front of us, and to run away from it all.

The evening begins to take a dark turn as Josh begins to reflect on the fact that Maureen may have abused him as a child...

The evening begins to take a dark turn as Josh begins to reflect on the fact that Maureen may have abused him as a child and together the characters start to consider cycles of generational trauma and whether or not those ongoing progressions can be stopped. ‘A Second Coming’ is a play about how we all grapple with past pain in order to live on and move forward, it is a play about family, chosen or otherwise and above all finding togetherness as we navigate the darkest parts of ourselves.
