Maddy Reese is a playwright, Morrisonian scholar, and audio storyteller whose work braids ritual, nonlinear time, and memory into counter-archives that resist erasure and invite communal witnessing. A graduate of The New School’s Eugene Lang College, where they studied Culture & Media with minors in Theater and Nonfiction Writing, their creative practice moves fluidly across stage and sound.
Having worked in every facet of theatre and audio production, Maddy has written, directed, produced, sound-designed, and performed their own work, cultivating a holistic approach to storytelling. Their thesis play, All Our Ichor, which they wrote, directed, produced, and sound-designed, premiered in May 2025 and explores twinhood, rupture, and spiritual longing through a dramaturgy informed by Toni Morrison and diasporic ritual traditions.
In addition to theatre, Maddy is deeply invested in audio as both an archival and creative medium. As Station Manager of WNSR, The New School’s radio station, they produced live radio dramas, mentored emerging artists, and curated interviews with playwrights, directors, and performers.
Grounded in Black feminist thought, postcolonial somatic practice, and magical realism, Maddy is currently developing new performance works and expanding the All Our Ichor archive while building an interdisciplinary, community-oriented creative practice across stage and sound.
