Mahogany Brown and the Case of the Disappearing Kid

by Gina Femia

It was a day like any other, except different. It was different. The air was a little bit too still and the trees were a bit too tall. That day. The day Jimmy Jones' little boy disappeared. Follow Private Eye Mahogany Brown as she searches for the child supposedly taken by “The Nameless”. As the case progresses, clues appear to reveal more about Mahogany Brown than she is ready to handle.

This play goes from heartwarming child detective pastiche to heartrending inescapable realism and takes the audience along on the journey in such a way that such a big shift never feels like anything but the natural and inevitable path to take. It's a powerful piece and I'll gladly echo others in saying that it is a full-on stomach punch of a play.

Incredibly amazing and moving play. Very hard to not leave the work without shedding at least one tear.

So rare to find a piece of theater that truly embraces and understands style while still delivering rich, nuanced emotional stakes. Also, a joyous playground for all actors involved.
