Schrödinger's Gun
by Greg A. Smith
Roland, a nervous white trainee Police Officer, sits across from Freeman, an African-American man. With a briefcase sat between them, Roland is told that if there’s a gun in the case, Freeman will shoot him, before Freeman repeatedly asserts that there is no weapon. As Freeman slowly opens the case, Roland is caught in a tense dilemma between trusting Freeman’s word, and protecting his own life.
