We've all been there: you're watching a dreadfully dull drama that promises to go nowhere and is taking its sweet time getting there. You'd gladly offer up a kidney if the plot would only take a turn in some completely outrageous direction, but it never does. Until now. A woman reconnects with her mother in this tale of family, forgiveness, and giant flesh-eating lobsters.

This script is lighthearted and clever, and it was clear in the performance I saw that the actors had a lot of fun with its twists. A strange monster tale, which reminded me of the another genre-bending monster movie, COLOSSAL.

A joyfully demented genre mash-up in which the extremely sincere heroines of a sedate family drama are the only ones who can stop an army of mutant lobsters. Buried somewhere in all of this is a genuinely probing meditation about what kinds of stories our society prioritizes, and the gender divide in our pop culture - but let me remind you about the ARMY OF MUTANT LOBSTERS. Stage this on the biggest stage your ten minute play festival can manage (again, army of mutant lobsters) and go nuts.

Had the sheer joy of attending a reading of this at the Valdez Theatre Conference. An absolutely hysterical take on theatrical conventions that starts out as "On Golden Pond" and ends as, well, something else altogether. I read the play it beforehand and wish I hadn't, because this piece is a surprise better left unspoilt.
