ONE ACT - (1M/1F) "A Rainy Night in Hollywood" is a dramatic play inspired by the events set in 1947, during the golden age of Hollywood. The play follows the encounter between Rita Hayworth, a famous actress unhappy with her career and personal life, and George, a studio driver unaware of her identity and a secret passion for writing movies. The play occurs in a car parked outside a studio gate on a rainy night, where Rita and George share their dreams, frustrations, and feelings.

    I enjoyed this sweet tale (even more so for being based on a true story) of a conversation showing us behind the scenes of a Hollywood actress (in real life - not all glamour) and the previously heroic life of a fan and now driver at the film studio. The dialogue has a natural warmth with a satisfying upbeat twist at the end and I can easily 'see this' being performed.

RITA HAYWORTH: In her late 20s, a Hollywood legend, her appearance reflects the glamour of the golden age of cinema. She possesses timeless beauty with striking features that have captivated audiences worldwide. Her cascading auburn hair, meticulously styled, frames her face like a radiant halo. Despite the rainy night, her hair retains its lustrous shine.
GEORGE: In his late 40s, he is the antithesis of the Hollywood glamour that surrounds Rita. He exudes a down-to-earth, working-class charm. Dressed in a dark suit, George's appearance is neat and practical. His uniform and cap, which he respectfully removes when he meets Rita, signify his role as a studio driver.
