South Dakota State University is now accepting submissions for The Festival of New Plays!

The Festival of New Plays at South Dakota State University is dedicated to developing new works by engaging students with living playwrights. We are especially looking for plays that will fit in with our 23-24 season theme of Discovery. We are seeking play submissions which will receive public staged readings as part of the festival held on campus November 14-17, 2023. Selected playwrights will be invited to Brookings, SD to work with student actors and participate in workshop sessions and post-reading discussions. All playwrights selected must commit to traveling to campus during the festival. We will provide travel, housing, meals, and the opportunity to develop your play.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Playwrights may only submit one piece for consideration
- Please limit your cast to a maximum of six actors
-Please include a one paragraph plot synopsis as part of your submission
-Submission is limited to the first 150 plays.
- We will not accept screenplays or musicals at this time

We are limiting submissions to the first 150 plays or to the deadline of 11:59 pm CST on March 13, 2023. No late submissions will be accepted. All plays must be submitted via the link provided (not tagged in NPX).

CRITERIA
• Genres: adventure, comedy, commedia dell'arte, dark comedy, drama, experimental, fantasy, farce, horror, melodrama, movement/physical, mystery/thriller, pantomime, parody/spoof, period, political, romantic comedy, satire, science fiction, tragedy, verse
• Length: 60-90 minutes
• Age Appropriateness: all ages
Scripts will be ranked by the reading committee and selected playwrights will be notified by May 15, 2023
