What the Dickens?

The worlds of Charles Dickens, Jules Verne, and H.P. Lovecraft collide. Dickens is launching a new career as a scientist by performing an experiment on a mysterious insect, the bahumbug, which Professor Lindenbrock discovered on his journey to the center of the earth. The bahumbug is from the Cthulhu universe, which does not bode well for the experiment.

This play is absolute catnip for the literary-pun fan, but knowledge of the works of Dickens, Verne, or Lovecraft isn't necessary to enjoy the snappy dialogue and funny premise of the play. Fantastic opportunities for character actors!

The puns, literary and otherwise, don’t stop in this fast and funny mashup of Charles Dickens, Jules Verne, and H.P. Lovecraft. Clever, witty, and wonderful on so many levels, my head was spinning in delight just from the hilarious use of both the name and word “dickens” alone – that Dakutis keeps the joke aloft with as much ease as he juggles the rest of the work is a testament to both his skill and imagination. Smashing good fun!
