I loved the meta horror beginnings of this piece. The "darlings" a writer has killed, back for revenge on their creator. But the twist was a real surprise! Wonderfully tense, a little funny and super creative!

"Unburied" is a brilliant piece of horror with an absolutely amazing twist that I never saw coming. John Bavoso created a truly chilling piece of theatre here! A definite must read!

John Bavoso has written a biting satire that is deathly clever. Smart, spooky, and funny. I don’t want to give any spoilers so do yourself a favor and read it. “Unburied” would be a wickedly fun addition to any 10 minute festival but especially one with a horror or Halloween theme. Well done!

John Bavoso has written a provocative and original meta-examination of the 'bury your gays' trope in UNBURIED. Queerbaiting and the typical untimely demise of queer characters is seen in many genres, but especially thrillers. John takes those themes and examines them in this play through a lens of internalized homophobia as well. A thrilling production I'd be excited to see staged.

What a gem! Funny AND scary - Bavoso delivers a Halloween fright-fest with deeply-felt satirical subtext. Richly-drawn characters shine, with clever dialogue creating boundless opportunities for dynamics and fun. No spoilers - That ending. Holy cow!

It's no secret that the horror genre has often been a home base in art for a lot of LGBTQ people, myself included. So mad props to John Bavoso for creating a horror story for us, but also for writing a wonderfully meta condemnation of queerbaiting and internalized homophobia. The comedy is witty and crack-of-the-whip, the horror of seeing characters you've created come alive to kill you is scary and bloody, and the satire bites hard. "Unburied" is what I like to call Bravo Bavoso!

Deliciously witty, twisting, and bloody, Bavoso’s play is a perfect short for the spooky season. Come for the frights, stay for the articulate critique of tired, disrespectful tropes, and trust in the electrifying ride Bavoso’s penned. The ending, in particular, is a brilliant touch, genuinely surprising, but not so shocking as to feel unearned. Wonderful work.

UNBURIED is an amazing piece of work, filled to the brim with meta quips and self aware dialogue, I couldn't stop smiling! Bavoso brings fiction to life and shows us the wrath of characters that are far to often killed off for heart-wrenching cliches. The comedy is nonstop, the horror is electric, and the finale... is to die for! Would love to see this in person.

A wickedly fun, self-aware, meta-theatrical Halloween treat. While skewering tired clichés about Tragic Gays, Unburied revels in a smorgasbord of horror and fantasy tropes — I detected bits of Frankenstein, Murder By Death, The Eyre Affair, and Deathtrap, to name a few — while scratching at bigger questions about some gay people’s strained relationship to their own sense of identity. Good, murderous fun.
