I had the privilege of seeing this piece performed at the 48th Annual Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival. I appreciated the comedy and themes of representation in media. Another reviewer said it best, even in a staged reading format I had an incredible sense of setting and community watching this.

Matt Barbot’s intra-community debate about representation, stereotypes and appropriation is wrapped in a charming little romantic comedy that’s sure to make you smile—whether you love West Side Story or hate it.

The title grabbed me. The dialogue between the characters is funny and says so much about a lot of the issues that have plagued our American world since the beginning. I wonder what Ana would think of the remake of the movie that just came out?

"You'd be profiting from tragedy!" As this young man is just trying to flirt is just so funny. I loved this piece not just because the comedy was on point but the dynamic of the three characters was so cyclical and multilayered that the story played out so naturally I felt like I was in the same park watching it all go down. Here's to Barbot! Hope I get to see it one day!

A revealing play of the struggle of displacement and identity in seeing one another in different roles. Well done.

A congenial play that tackles huge themes such as identity and displacement, in a casual, yet eloquent way. This could easily be a longer play, but it works well as a short piece.

This is a very "inside-baseball", theatre nerd premise but Barbot is able to make it a story about identity, the current state of Puerto Rico and love at first sight. It goes to some deep places but leaves you with a warm and fuzzy feeling too. Also....ONE OF THE CHARACTERS IS A DRAMATURG!!!!!
