I haven't been able to stop thinking about this play since I read it in 2021. It's haunting, erotic, and tense, and really wonderfully balances realism with the (surreal, ghostly) experience of being haunted and drawn in by an intense relationship from your past. I truly hope I get to see this performed someday!

I am absolutely wild about this play. It's a hot, steamy ghost story about letting go. Can't wait to see a production that really leans into the stage magic that is possible here.

I saw a reading of this at MirrorBox's Out the Box series, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Down in the Holler has a rich theatrical language, dialogue that crackles, and rural queer representation that make for a powerful performance event. A theater would be lucky to produce this.

This love triangle play crackles with interpersonal dynamics and mysteries of the heart. The writer's cleverly crafted story of past loves/personas dovetailing with the here and now blew me away. And it's sexy!! I would love to see it produced.

A viscerally physical ghost story. It's incredibly sexy, incredibly funny, and incredibly human. Val has created an exceptional conduit for looking at one relationship and the universal feelings of love, growth, and loss. If you are producing exciting new plays and have dynamite female-identified performers who want some of the best material out there, this is the play for you.

It's sexy and haunting and funny and devastating. A backwoods, lesbian-ghost play about class, memory, love, and how hard it is to outrun our past. A beautiful play that sparks all the senses and burns them long after the final blackout.

Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, delicate and raucous, DOWN IN THE HOLLER is a piece that should be produced widely. With four juicy female roles and an elegant circular structure, it's a delight to watch or read.
