The Inseparables

[Full Length] The North American Unified Theatre Collaborators of the West really want to put on a show. Like, really bad. Under the leadership of their founder and director, this group of actors has decided to stage a new adaptation of The Three Musketeers. Only, they aren't nearly as prepared as they should be. With puppets and pool noodles, this theatre group prepares for their glorious come back...that may not happen.

What an absolute joy of a play! A metatheatrical love letter to the challenges of theatre and the people who rise to meet them. I couldn't stop picturing the play as I read it, and I couldn't stop laughing.

Duels, intrigue, daring-do, puppets, a truly astounding battle sequence, and so much more! This is everything you could want in an adaptation of the Three Musketeers, with a big meta twist. By cracking open the traditional narrative to make the inner workings themselves part of the spectacle, Young captures something essential to Dumas' novel. Through on the fly edits, conflicts between actors and director, and characters discovering the joy of the story as they tell it, this adaptation is both surprisingly faithful, and a creation that stands entirely on its own.

I'm a big fan of theatrical adaptations, and when I heard that TJ had tackled Dumas' swashbuckling epic - one of my faves, that I just re-read - I *had* to seek out this play. What a treat! Not only does the play embrace one of the funnest (and most-improbable plots) in all literature, but in its delightful pages, we get a love song to theatre, which I imagine most of us miss something fierce. Young explores Dumas' thematic footholds and takes the audience on a fantastic adventure, digging into the eternal questions while creating pure joy. Merci beaucoup, TJ!
