Can the magic be found by these two? A lesson in getting past doubts and appreciating the gifts in life when we have them.

Oh my word this fantasy is so beautiful in every way, I only wish it could become reality as it is such a sweet notion. Lindsay has written a gem here, the relationship between her two characters is palpable and heart warming. In my close family we have a blind person, so this piece really touched my heart. I loved this!

Heartfelt, beautiful fantasy. The story begins as a mystery, but we slowly come to understand the nature of Amanda's spirit. We then come to understand the connections between her and Ryan. And we intuit what may happen, and it's beautiful when it does. Such a satisfying play.

Partain's short play takes you on a journey through the woods and makes you question what you would give up for someone, and recall lost love. There are such nuances to tease out of this piece. The audience is left to the consider the relationship between the two characters (Partain made a great choice to let us decide). And then one sentence reveals a deep connection between Amanda, Amalia, and Amalia's husband; one that makes us ache for Amanda. And the gift that Ryan gives at the end...it would be a lighting designer's dream.

Maybe the best thing I can add to the Recommendations already lovingly placed here that hasn't already been said is how I was waiting for the twist, the moment of darkness, the Monkey's Paw, and how delighted and relieved I was when Partain didn't go for that moment, but simply let these two characters be; and let us the audience revel in the moment we get to witness. There is magic in these words, but perhaps the most magical of all is the simple elegance that Partain uses to bring them to life. Astonishing and revelatory, deserving of each accolade.

With Partain's poetic words and the power of spectacle (lighting, design, media), this play has the power to make your audience want to fall in love and hold someone a little closer. Beautiful! Just perfect for any showcase on Love, and a smart choice for your festival in February.

There are pieces of magic that come along and make you smile and tear up at the same time. In less than ten pages Lindsay Partain has created not just a good play. She has created a jewel that stands as a moving tribute to Love and its rewards when given without expectation and with thought only to others. Take some time and read this beautifully constructed piece, then produce it to try to make this dream world come to life.

What a beautiful tribute to love. One of the best short plays I've read and one of sheer poetry. Pertain's handling of this tale is simply magical!

One of the most beautiful plays I've ever read in my life. Just reading it gave me goosebumps and tears in my eyes. So gorgeously felt and sincere with a kind of humanity and poetry that flows off of the page. This is a play that has so clearly emerged from Partain's heart, and it has made me feel so much--wonderful and hope and poignancy and sadness and the truth that there is so much good to be had, so much good, even in the truest moments of pain. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Was fortunate to see Shimmers on stage as the closer to a short play line-up. A beautiful heartfelt piece. As the stage lit up, so did the audience, filled with the joy of humanity.
