Elisabeth Griffin Speckman created a real and tense situation, throwing brothers together in a sudden and unexpected place, we feel for these characters and their search for connection.

Elisabeth Giffin Speckman does a beautiful job of creating two complex and vulnerable characters who we immediately are drawn to. In 10 minutes we understand so much about who these brothers are, what they're going through, and ultimately what they need from each other. This sweet, funny, and poignant play hits you in the feels.

Ever had to share a bed with a sibling that already drives you nuts? What if you hadn't met this sibling until four hours prior? One answer to this question can be found in Speckman's poignant one act. Both comedic and heartfelt this play is a beautiful look at two half-brothers trying to navigate a new familial ties--and one hotel bed. Sam and James are authentic and wonderful characters anyone would love to play, especially younger actors.

This is a great piece for two younger actors. The characters are perfectly created, showing both the humor of this age group and the conflicts of identity that come with deciding how we define family. The setting of a hotel room is an effective choice for what may be a temporary bond between these two relative strangers.

“Sometimes you just need to let yourself need someone.” Speckman’s scenario beautifully captures that sentiment. In a tense back-and-forth between brothers (maybe) wanting to know each other, we are given a fractured relationship between two siblings. Little-by-little we start hoping for the best for both of them. Even it it’s unlikely. There’s not a lot of room in a small hotel with one bed. But there’s always hope.

Such a beautiful sense of family-is-as-family-does pervades the undercurrent of this funny, engaging play. Speckman darts masterfully through a range of emotions, hitting clear, compelling notes and leaving plenty of room for a team to explore.

"Brothers on a Hotel Bed" has tension all the way through. There is mystery and heart in snappy dialogue that is interesting to the audience. It keeps moving towards the end without a moment's release on the tension. Great job.

We recently produced Brothers on a Hotel Bed as a Zoom play for Crossroads Theater Shed as part of a ten minute play festival and it was just the perfect piece for us. It was a pleasure to meet the Playwright, Elisabeth Giffin Speckman. She had such great advice for our young actors. Brothers on a Hotel Bed is the perfect play for young actors to sink their teeth into. It lets them come to grips with different emotional moments and offers the audience powerful insights on relationships between siblings.

ELISABETH GIFFIN SPECKMAN’s play, “Brothers On A Hotel Bed”, is a sweet but dramatic tale. The play provides a wonderful opportunity for two young actors to captivate the audience with well-written dialogue. I was struck by how much we found out in such a short play about the boys, their family dynamics, and the pain and joy from such relationships.
