History told through theatricality. The struggle and contradictions of the time period are told in the small beats, the intimate moments of survival. The stage directions really carry the action here, and do so with heavy dramatic momentum. A standout in showing time and place through actions as well as words.

From the stage directions, to the dialogue, to the use of silence, the entire play is lyrical and poetic. The underlying tension of the situation is felt from the start which makes the quiet moments of normalcy and connection all the more effecting. Playing with both time and hyperrealistic movement, this play is a surely an emotional and visual feast for any audience.

A very visual play. Places you in the middle of all the most intimate scenes. Each scene flawlessly intertwines from one to the other. It truly is a dance. And one that leaves your heart aching in the end.

The use of silence in this play is exquisite. Carlos-Zenen Trujillo writes for a new era in theatre. I am completely transported by the descriptive text and movement of this piece.

This play is a pressure cooker that builds to a final moment of rage. It's a family play in the tradition of Miller, O' Neill and Steinbeck but told through the eyes of those that are so often excluded from those narratives. The genius of this plays comes in the moments of music and dance. Choreography beautifully represents the passing of time and the monotony of life at this time in Cuba. The tension building is so effective. I am honored to have spent time with this family and hope the best for them.
