An adaptation of an eerie tale that when put through the lens that Hall places it, becomes even more haunting. A fine piece for those familiar with the inspiration and those who are not. Chilling and yet I can't get enough.

Dana Hall has created a first-rate adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s Tell-Tale Heart. Keeping all of the tension of the original, Hall skillfully puts a modern spin on it. And splitting the narrator into three characters to represent the divisions of the subconscious mind actually makes the sole perpetrator’s reasoning more chilling than the original. This should become a Halloween staple or any time a theater wants to provide a good scare.

I loved the way that this adaptation managed to update the story for a modern context while still keeping its grand, Gothic feel. The Freudian flair is really fun and well-handled; some plays that try to theatricalize the inner mind end up feeling kind of awkward or overly literal, but this play does a great job of making it highly theatrical with just a few elements. The gender-swapped story, tied into the unrealistic and impossible expectations placed on women, is a great way to make the story feel both timely and timeless. A creepy delight!

I'm a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories, and this is a terrific adaptation of his most famous tale! I loved this update of "The Tell-Tale Heart" --its changes comment well on the world of today!

It is surely brave to take on an adaptation of a master piece by such a classic author, but Dana has done just that to dramatic effect. I'm a big fan of the original story and the playwright has effectively bought it up to date with 3 actors bringing to life the tension and drama in a unique way. So much left unsaid as to what she is now free from, but we can all draw our own conclusions. Excellent!

I had the absolute pleasure of directing this beautifully written piece for Rainy Day Artistic Collective. Equal parts haunting and heartbreaking, it is a stunning and rattling adaptation some of a literary giant’s most famous work — this can be difficult to tackle, but playwright Dana Hall has achieved a fresh and modern adaptation of it with amazing skill and grace. I highly recommend this piece, both for Edgar Allan Poe fans, and people who just want something that makes them thing, alike.

UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS is an atmospherically haunting play with beautiful and thought-provoking prose. Playwright Dana Hall has made very smart choices in updating and adapting the classic tale (A Poe adaptation that passes the Bechdel Test? Heck yea!).
