The Ebenezer Effect

[TEN MINUTE]
While out running an errand for his mother, Thomas was stopped in his tracks by none other than old Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge asking him what day it was. This is the story of what happened when Thomas returned home half a crown richer after fetching the prized turkey for Mr. Scrooge.

Authors often take the lives of their minor characters for granted. Dickens didn’t. He seemed to have a backstory for everyone, or at least knew where they came from: the world, the home, the family, the food, the loss, the love.

Hunt takes one of those characters and immerses us in their world. And it is magical! The attention to detail in setting and characters utterly charms us and there’s enough doubt and poverty to keep things from becoming saccharine. Hunt gives us a holiday confection made from the finest traditional ingredients. Ah Dickens!

A lovely new take on the most Christmas of classics inspiring us all to practice kindness and generosity every day. Hunt has crafted a lovely holiday short complete with Christmas presents, portly poulterers and parlour games. Bravo!

From the moment I started in on this play I couldn’t stop smiling. Randy Hunt has taken an unforgettable character from a timeless classic and concluded his story in the most remarkable way. The boy that confirms its Christmas for Ebenezer then takes this turn of events and follows Ebenezer’s example into a cascade of giving. Randy’s ability to create fantastic relationships is a staple in his shows, but the relationship between the family and Jane is one of my favorites! Excellent work, hope to see this on a stage in December 2022!
