Beach House

10-minute play
Newly-widowed Carolyn surprises her adult son Mark when she says she’s ready to complete the sale of the family’s beloved vacation home—ASAP. Carolyn will do whatever it takes to get the house ready to sell—even if that mean erasing much of what makes the house so special to Mark. When Mark presses his mother about her hurry, he learns something about the house that he wishes he hadn’t.

This short play which was recently read at the Storefront Theatre in NC has so much to it in ten pages. The on-the-nose real estate agent, the son with all his childhood memories and the mother, Carolyn who has different kinds of memories and not all good. I have memories of a beach cottage our family stayed in on the Cape and this play made me think of it. Happily my memories are good ones.
