A haunting and heartbreaking tale of loss and alienation in small town America. A beautifully theatrical play.

My favorite play of Darcy's so far, a poignant and exquisitely lyrical evocation of blue-collar America in the aftermath of war. (And so much more of course, but I refuse to spoil anything about a play I like this much). It has big thematic ambitions (which it pulls off brilliantly) but my favorite aspect of the work is the incredibly lifelike, wounded, authentic, breathing characters (especially Jonah, in my opinion Darcy's most realized creation to date). Can't recommend this highly enough, I'm very impatient to see this onstage!

THE PLACE THAT MADE YOU is a haunting (in multiple senses) play about the way the past chases us, how grief works on the body, and how the wars we carry inside and out are both gulf and bridge toward re-locating a sense of home when all seems lost. Written with compassion and purpose and an edgy surrealism full of wonder.
