I love the way Jennifer draws her characters in and out of her story. There are no wasted words. Just succinctly drawn characters who feel well-rounded and alive. Oh to hear the whispered voice in the row behind you after this plays ends, asking "Ella who?"

A stunner of a play. Tugs at your heartstrings, and for those of us who grew up with those "Beatles hard black circles" it's a lovely paean to our childhoods and the important role music plays in our lives. Playwright Jennifer O'Grady manages to pack a whole world into a very short play. We learn so much about Hailey and her life, through her unique lens and way of expressing herself. I'm really in awe of the craft shown here in this play. Read it and then go listen to some Elephant Gerald - it'll do you good.

What a lovely, heartwarming play this is, beautifully narrated by Hailey. Music is truly inspirational and evocative, to pass it onto the next generation is a must and something I strive to do. So reading this put a lovely tune in my heart. Wonderful!

A lovely little story about growing up and accepting yourself as part of a wonderfully diverse and endlessly fascinating world. At first I loved the humor of a young person experiencing items from her dad's life that belong in a museum as far as she's concerned. But then, as the character probes more deeply and lets herself listen and understand, the play becomes something rare and beautiful.

O'Grady has written a fine story of inter-generational connection through music. It's bittersweet, perhaps, but it also nicely shows a teenage girl's earliest experiences into a new interest.

Here is such a poignant piece that O'Grady creates with great skill. Her light touch lets us experience the frustration, confusion and rejection this young woman is forced to manage and provides - through music and the act of listening - a way for Hailey to move forward. Beautiful!

Music can ultimately be the greatest door towards discovery and understanding. It bonds and connects us in a beautiful way and is incredibly healing. Excellent!

A charming play which captures the all the angst and wonder of being a teenage girl in a difficult world. Moving and funny, with a great role for a young actress.

Wow, what a beautiful play. A fantastic, natural-voiced Hailey tells us a unique story, one that would resonate beautifully not only with the younger generation, but with everyone. It's a beautifully crafted play about a young woman learning about herself--and maybe she doesn't understand everything she's learned, but some day, the lessons that Betty has taught her are going to have a major impact on her life. A truly marvelous play that accomplishes so much in ten tight pages. Wonderful.

Music is the balm that heals the soul and certainly in this O'Grady gem, an adage that holds up under the poetry of this family drama of a daughter coming to terms with her parent's divorce and the realization that new beginnings are just around the corner for us all---along with a great song.
