GALILEE

GALILEE takes place amidst the collision of competing economic and ecological forces in a small Australian coastal town on the Great Barrier Reef. As coral bleaches deathly white across the Reef and the oceans heat up, a young marine scientist fights to save the seas - but first, she has to save her mother's hair salon business from a dangerous land shark.

A fantastic look at how we balance our fight to save our seas and the problems on land as commerce is intertwined. Well done!

A play that is at the heart of almost everything these days - business or the environment, mining or protecting, who we are and how we choose. Grounded in a community and a mother/daughter relationship, I really enjoyed the theatricality of it, especially the way Harry moves through the play and also the way Carol comes to understand who she is and where she belongs. Beautiful work!

I had the pleasure of watching this play evolve during the PlayPenn New Play Conference. This beautiful, funny, moving new play is a unique approach to the topic of environmental dangers. Full of promise and possibility, these characters burst off the page with life and heart.
