A latinx family in Miami struggles to survive a super hurricane that catastrophically floods the city, while also dealing with generational/cultural clashes, and the supernatural elements of their past and present. Cuban-American mother, Helga, and Colombian-American father, Alejandro, relive the universal immigrant trauma of abandoning their home for safety. While Helga battles with her sense of worth and willfulness to keep peace within the family, Alejandro's "machismo" threatens their relationship. Meanwhile, their children and natural born US citizens, Junia and Fernando, once allowed to self actualize with great opportunities for education or freedom (unlike their parents) must now focus on survival. An environmental studies PhD candidate, Junia yearns to make Miami environmentally sustainable, but her family confuses her passion and intelligence as a condescension towards them. A high school student, Fernando seems directionless in ambition, but wants independence and manhood outside of his father's toxic masculinity. Their half sister Sooki (Alejandro's step-daughter) left behind by Helga to send money to her from America, immigrated from Cuba in her twenties, and must balance her tragic past with her new obstacle ridden life in America. To make matters more complicated, Helga and her daughters have visions of the future, and fear that the Hurricane is only a gateway to more natural disasters, maybe even the family's destruction.
