Recommendations of Stargazers

  • Ashlyn Cox: Stargazers

Stargazers by Reina Hardy is an out-of-this-world experience with characters who are realistic yet quirky. The structure of this play is unique to its kind and brings great discussion towards the characters and to who is truly the one telling the story. With the use of poetry and relationships between characters, Hardy speaks to science as it correlates to love. Stargazers is incredibly original and makes the audience think of themselves as the center of their own universe.

This play is ethereal and magical with funny, human - and not-so-human - characters who are flawed but easy to love. Sure to leave audiences pondering the universe, and what more can you ask for?

  • George Sapio: Stargazers

Helluva romance. It has everything a love story needs: a confused couple, longing, tenderness, humor, poetry, calculus, physics, exploding stars. Would love to see this on stage, or better yet, direct it.

Quite simply, one of the most perfectly constructed plays I've come across in a long time.

I never thought I would direct a romantic comedy until I read this play, but a romantic comedy like this one is a rare and beautiful thing. It takes the classic love triangle of the guy choosing between his vision of the perfect woman and a hilariously flawed real woman and blends in a delicious mix of science, fantasy, poetry and pop music. I memorized a poem in this play before I ever started working on it. It is pure dessert: at times salty, nutty and even a little bitter, but never overpowering the sweet.

I couldn't like this play any more. Its mechanism works on all scales: from the personal to the astronomical. It's got a big vision (as does its author) and a grounded heart. It deserves to be both produced and seen.

  • Jordan Mechano: Stargazers

Likeable from the first page. Quick, smart, silly and genuinely funny. Naturally written and easy to read. Character driven. Also, I love the way Hardy writes scenes where only one character is speaking. It's never just, stand and talk to the audience. Everything is justified within the world. There's magic in a simple love story. There's poetry in the dry facts of the universe. There's a party to be had out there.
