This playwright is very brave for tackling a story this powerful. Few may know about the backdrop, but Walker makes you feel that it's not only important, but timeless. The characters are up against impossible odds to secure one more family connection, one last bit of hope. This story has no easy answers, but touches on a piece of humanity that few will match. That is art at the highest level.

This play has it all - great drama, gripping dialogue, beautiful theatricality (the jacarandas and the medialunas especially). Above all, it reveals the tragedy ideals bring to the innocent, ideals that ignore compassion. A message we need to hear over and over, Walker's play shows simple people caught up in complex times. And this message cannot be objective; as it is here, it is a message that must be told with truth and courage. A situation is never too complex to be seen in the light of the basic human right of justice.

When my play Revolt was running in Chicago, somebody told me about this play that was running at the same time called The Madres. Sadly I had no time and missed it. Decided to read it on my way to Argentina, and wow. This is painful. This is encouraging. This is history. This play is an incredible piece of theater that reminds us of our cruelty but also of Our power.

This is an INCREDIBLY powerful play that needs to be read and staged all over the country at this very moment. Well-written with PHENOMENAL structure and fantastic dialogue and beautiful stage directions, Walker knocks it out of the park page after page after page. I could hardly read the last scene because it was so tense and powerful, I can't imagine what it would be like on stage. I can't really call this play a celebration of womanhood, but there is a great strength to it. Reading it gave me courage. I hope this play is staged near me soon.

A haunting piece about a moment that continues to shape Argentina's history and that certainly does not get enough press. Everyone should know about this historical moment, and this play can help make that happen! Plus, you've gotta love this many roles for strong women.

A harrowing look at a horrific time in recent history. This play deftly balances humor with packing an emotional punch. Increasingly relevant in our current political climate.

I traveled to Argentina and spent almost 4 months there, studying the Dirty War and its history, and watched the Madres march every week. This play is so important, and the history is necessary for every American to understand. This play's language and mix of Argentine Spanish is perfect. If you are anywhere near where it is being performed, it is your obligation to go see it. Glad it has gotten an NNPN world premiere and hoping more theatres around the country pick it up quickly.

Heartbreaking and beautifully rendered, The Madres brings us into a different world of Argentina's The Disappeared but also the universal world of the agony of motherhood when our children are lost to us.
