←Recommendations of GIANT SLALOM

I have wanted to include this play in Red Theater's script club for so long. One interesting thing that our conversation highlighted is the choice of time. I'm so fascinated with the differences in the voices of young millennials versus gen z. It's such as strong choice to set this play in 2017 and you can hear that choice in the way the characters speak and what they speak about.

Absolutely sparkling scenes between three young women navigating the crucial time in life where we begin to choose for ourselves what matters most. This is a play that invites a wide range of staging options and is a gift to both performers and audience.

What a pressure cooker - it's impossibly easy to get invested in the lives of these three teen athletes and how they navigate the world/each other. It's such a great opportunity for young actors to dig into some meaty, funny, complex roles, plus design elements that invite creativity and beauty amid the high-speed thrills and emotional violence.

This belongs in the canon of excellent teen dramas. Stage this now, please! Yes, YOU!

As fast and unforgiving as an icy peak, Honovich's look at the violence that young women dole out to, and take from, each other slaloms excellently between a thriller and a comedy. Filled with opportunities for innovative theatricality and anchored by a trio of plush roles for anyone ages 14-40, the script is a rich blueprint that hundreds of unique productions could spin off from. Hoping for an ongoing future for this one.

Giant Slalom is a remarkable piece of writing. Twists, biting dialogue, genuine moments of connection, the thrill of athletic competition, and a truly touching ending that makes you crave more. One of the best pieces I have read/seen for high school students and adults. Produce immediately.

In "Giant Slalom," Jess Honovich drops us into a hyper-competitive world with specifics that most people might not know, but the circumstances are instantly clear through her sharp dialogue and exciting characters. Each plot twist was thrilling as I didn't see it coming, but as soon as it had happened, it made total sense. The play also uses place in such an interesting way, even with its very specific setting. I would love to see a production of this play!

Sports put high demands on the physical body and spirit, and for these three young women who are attempting to make the US team, this writer brings great insights as their character is tested. Female friendship is also a fragile thing, and under the spotlight of competition, it makes for an exhilarating piece of drama. Cheering it on to production!

Stakes couldn't be higher in this play about 3 teenage girls who just happen to be competitive skiers. This play is awesome at keeping the intensity up in the clubhouse and also on the slopes. The scenes of actual skiing is written in such an inter.esting way and I can't wait to see how a director interprets them in a full production.

A perfect example of how to find universal in the specific. "Giant Slalom" tells a story of teenage female competitive skiers—and does so with incredible authority and humor— but also one about the utterly complex and fraught dynamics of competition, friendship, and growing up. Whether or not you've ever taken a chairlift to the top of a mountain, this is a play that will grab you and move you in ways you may not expect.

Very fresh and innovative piece about young women who ski. Effortlessly feminist and fun! We're lucky to have this play as one of our Fall Festival Finalists!!
