    It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Jess Honovich and their play Giant Slalom as a finalist for our 2017 National Playwrights Conference. The play rose through a competitive, anonymous, multileveled selection process that took nearly nine months to execute. As one of 55 finalists out of more than 1,300 submissions, the strength of its writing has allowed this work to prosper in such a competitive selection process. Our readers were struck by the play’s trio of complex, layered female characters, as well as the theatricality of the skiing.

    This play is exciting, hilarious, deeply moving, and delightfully fresh. It brings a whole new world to the stage (competitive skiing), and does it in a satisfying and artistically interesting way. There are so many opportunities here for actresses, directors, and designers. I cannot recommend this play enough!

    This is a funny and moving coming of age play about deciding what kind of person you want to be. It has a solid structure that allows for so much great physical action to happen on stage. With three fantastic roles for young women and one set, this is play is a producer's dream. However, more importantly, it tells a story that audiences will love hearing and won't be able to stop thinking about.
