What a fantastic script. The Broken Nose Theatre production in Chicago was an inspiring piece of theatre, with incredible roles for some gifted actors. It is impossible not to identify with Halo and her journey. At the end, when her sister asks her to explain why she needs this (MMA training) in her life, you could feel the truth of Halo's answer reverberate through the audience. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I just saw the Broken Nose production in Chicago. It has simple, elegant storytelling, strong characters and it's exciting, engaging, funny and surprising. Spotswood does a beautiful job of connecting the process of training to be a fighter with the ongoing process of figuring out how to self-advocate in real life. He also shows characters who are fighting to get better, feel better and take better care of one another. This is a hopeful and thoughtfully written play.

I played Gina in the West Coast Premiere of this show, and it was one of the finest theatrical and artistic experiences of my life. Spotswood's dialogue is transcendent and a true gift to the actor/actress.

What a beautiful piece. It offers roles for women that are not only active and complex, but also physically challenging and utterly unique. A fantastic challenge for a director/company interested in deep conversations about gender and power, as well as physically heightened and immersive performances.

A compact and complex work. Spotswood figures out how to make MMA fighting theatrical and not just showy, integrating it deeply into the characters' journeys. He avoids easy answers, touching on aspects of class, gender, ageism, and more in portraying the forces that shape the world of Halo and her family. The kind of sharp and deceptively simple (but NOT simplistic) work that ought to be produced all over.
