Recommendations of Missed Connections

  • Molly Wagner: Missed Connections

Fun and delightful, I had the opportunity of seeing a staged reading of Missed Connections with Wayward Sisters Theatre Ensemble. This play is a whimsical story about the signs we seek to take a chance on love. Hallie also created an incredible opportunity for a non-binary actor to shine in the character of Lou.

I recently attended a reading of this play and was thoroughly entertained. As one audience member said in the post-reading discussion, "There is no judgement in this play," and I couldn't agree more. It's beautiful to leave a production with your mouth tired from laughing so much, you're brain tickled from learning new things, and your heart warmed by love. This was the second reading of a work by Hallie that I have attended (the first being a reading of Derailed) and I left both times feeling grateful that playwrights like her exist.

  • J. Joseph Cox: Missed Connections

I was intrigued by the premise of this play—the Missed Connections section of the local rag predicting encounters that haven’t happened yet. But, ultimately, what got me was the way those ads encouraged the characters to take charge of their lives instead of letting them pass by. A wonderful example of matching theme with plot device.

  • Barbara Lhota: Missed Connections

This is a magical play, full of optimism, about two lesbians and the ways things (sometimes) just happen to perfectly work out. Missed Connections happen every day and I have often wondered about those who reach out into the void to find their “love interest” in tiny papers. Do they ever connect? Avery, the main character is a teacher and a well-suited character for this work because she longs for a time when grammar and semantics were important – genuine words, which inspire the beginnings of true love.
