Recommendations of A Monogamy of Swans

  • Zenobia McMillian: A Monogamy of Swans

This is such a fun and well written play! The history of the swans is a nice little touch, and the development of the characters makes you genuinely love the play.

  • Gabriel Bowell: A Monogamy of Swans

I really do recommend this play to others. There was a clear intent to why Minigan wrote it, and the interactions between Ellie and Violet have serious and humorous beats alike.

A quick and witty 10 minute play that covers deep questions about the frustrating truths that come with discovering your sexuality. Super quick and light read!

  • Gather by the Ghost Light: A Monogamy of Swans

We had the privilege of producing this script as an audio play on the Gather by the Ghost Light podcast (https://www.gatherbytheghostlight.com/s4e1). In this play, Minigan gives us believable characters that you can 100% feel their connection the more they speak to each other. His use of a true site specific location backed up by the history of the two local swans, Romeo and Juliet, is such a creative touch that adds even more realism to this work of beautiful fiction. Highly recommended for any theatres wanting to produce thoughtful romantic comedies that will touch your heart!

I caught the production of this short play on Gather by the Ghostlight. A lovely short piece. Nothing is as it seems, or what we assume and Minigan uses this to perfect advantage to add tension to the story. But really there is only love

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: A Monogamy of Swans

What a beautiful short play! John Minigan plays are always more than they first appear, and I loved watching the story unfold, collecting subtle bits of exposition to piece together the back story of how these two women each ended up at the lagoon. There's so much richness and detail even though the play is only ten minutes long. What a lovely piece.

I listened to this on Gather by the Ghost Light and it's just lovely. A sweet moment between two complex people, it's easy to stage and gives you good stuff to work with. Check it out!
