Recommendations of A Tale of Terror

  • Rachael Carnes: TATTOO: A Tale of Terror

I recently had the pleasure of reading this creepy-as-hell play aloud in a writer's workshop. Burdick sets up such great inventory here, pacing the language to up the tension with every step. I love how literary it feels, on balance with chilling detail. Would be a delightful experience in a theater, radio show or podcast.

  • Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos: TATTOO: A Tale of Terror

This was such a fun, enjoyable introduction to radio plays for me. I would love to hear this as it was meant to be produced - coming across the airwaves on some cold, dark Halloween night. Burdick does a great job of setting the creepy mood and tone and painting a picture in the mind's eye of gloom and despair - all in wonderful, eerie detail. I was most intrigued with the classic fairy tale witch set in the modern setting of a tattoo parlor. A delightfully disturbing ending, too!

I wish everyone could see the face I made when I finished reading this creepy, awesome play. I am delighted and horrified - this piece of radio theatre would make Stephen King's heart beat faster. I can only hope I get to hear it performed one day. So clever, so creepy. I love it.

  • Asher Wyndham: TATTOO: A Tale of Terror

"...her breath poured over me like the smell of hot garbage after a summer rainstorm." Amazing description. That's just one example in this radio play that builds in intensity, creepiness and suspense. It's wonderfully complex in structure and diabolically smart in its execution. If you ever consider getting a tattoo, read this play!
