Recommendations of Recess

Words cannot express my love for this piece. Krantz has mastered the art of balancing humor with depth, pairing poignant stories with quirky characters, and exploring real and meaningful subject matters in bite-sized pieces. RECESS leaves the audience simultaneously laughing, feeling, and processing the complexities of intergenerational trauma and the relationships we form. As a fairly new director, this piece offers just enough to work with for blocking, and plenty of character development to dig into. RECESS is a MUST for any ten-minute play festival.

I feel like this is a full-length play and not a 10-minute one. It's two whole lifetimes packed into a brief yet epic story. Absolutely a must for two actors looking to feel what it's like to be a child again, and yet there is a love here that is absolutely daunting. A very beautiful play.

I loved this play, but unlike many other recommendations here I found it to be a chilling, dystopian depiction shedding light on why relationships fail - our lack of decent role models, our inability to even imagine normalcy. But hey, that's just me! I liked it like that because not every father drinks milk. Great work!

Recess is a warm, wonderful performance piece that is very accessible to a myriad of people. I am a high school teacher and my Drama students adore this play; these young actors are deeply dedicated to developing their parts because they are in love with the delightful characters this playwright has brought to life. I highly recommend this show to any professional or amateur group who wants to do something that moves an audience and stirs the heart. :)

A beautiful, soul-touching little piece, it takes two lifetimes, and crams them into a ten minute recess. There is so much here for actors to explore, so many ways it could be played. An exceptional short play that will enchant audiences and stay with them.

I'm obviously part of a wonderful peanut gallery of fans of this play/playwright. Recess packs so much in ten minutes that comes at you slowly and stays with you long after the lights black. A charming work for two facile actors.

There is every thing to love about this piece. A spark of magic. It is simply beautiful. There's nothing else that needs to be said. Just read it!

I love this play. I saw it performed in Los Angeles, and the cast nailed it - but it all starts with the words, which are a perfect blend of the playful and ultimately the real. A strong, satisfying piece of work.

It'd be easy to call this play cute and sweet, but it's so much more. It's beautiful and profound and lovely and incredibly tender. This may be one of the most romantic plays I've ever read, and I'm not ashamed to admit that my throat is a little tight after reading it. Absolutely masterfully created, and truly magical. It'd be such a pleasure to see this on stage.

What a wonderful and lovely play! Krantz allows us to love, understand and sympathize with these two characters, paralleling the simplicity of childhood and the complexity of adulthood from a child's perspective.
