Footprint

by Jennie Webb

Anna is suddenly having difficulties navigating her life in LA—is it being without a car or being stalled by a “Denver Boot of Sorrow?” And then there’s that body following her around, in a new reality where death gets up close and virtual in ways we might not expect. FOOTPRINT is a play about loss, mystery and leaving one’s mark.

A powerful look at love and loss in a digital age with the footprint left behind. Well done.

Footprint is such a moving and lovely play. It flows with poetry for a digital age and moves in a way that almost makes the audience feel like a beloved and missed ghost. I'll be thinking about this one for days.

I was so moved by reading this ethereal, fluid, funny, sad play about life and death and everything in-between. I'm awed by Webb's ability to navigate so deftly from humor to pathos, train station to cafe, apartment to office. The characters feel modern, yet timeless, as do the themes of love and loss and what to do with them.

Multi-racial casting is encouraged. Zenith is likely to be mixed race; Anna, Latina. Or perhaps Asian. Both women should be of color; they share “otherness.” Rick is probably white but not necessarily blindingly white. The body can be any race, but should not bear any physical resemblance to any of the other actors.
