Peg or Zen in the Art of Butt-f*cking Straight White Men or Actual Sexual Perversity in Chicago or You Can't F*ck a Metaphor.

by Liam Fitzgerald

For Peg and Steve, it's a pretty average evening. They've opened up a bottle of wine, dinner is being prepped, and a package of new sex toys has arrived in the mail. Only this time, it's a little different.
Tonight, Peg's going to... flip the script... the... sex script.
You know... with... the... like, putting... she's gonna peg him. Like the titular... you know what I mean.

Tonight, Peg's going to... flip the script... the... sex script.
You know... with... the... like, putting... she's gonna peg him. Like the titular... you know what I mean.
And even though he signed off on this idea originally, Steve is nervous, having second thoughts. Soon enough, both he and she are forced to face their own kinks, quirks, and societal conditioning, as they adjust to a world where gender politics follows them everywhere - including the bedroom.

An absolutely hilarious play about gender dynamics in and out of the bedroom! Full disclosure: I oversaw the development of this piece as the co-lead of Broken Nose Theatre's Paper Trail new-play series, and to watch the script grow into what it is now has been a thrill. The questions Liam asks here are uncomfortable and brazen and completely necessary. There's a level of vulnerability here (for both character and actor) that makes it immensely exciting. You'll squirm in your seat reading this because you know it's real. Read this now, if you can!

A fantastic capture of gender and sexual exploration in a couple. Shifting their power structure changes the dynamics in a relationship and gets to deeper territory. Well done.

Wow! A truly brilliant play about power dynamics and gender roles in modern relationships. In an extremely upfront yet nuanced manner, this play so effectively explores the ways in which straight white men refuse to relinquish power and control--and how disassembling those dynamics and structures is both a monumental task and an essential one. Hilarious, truthfully human, and profound! It also includes some of the most justified and well written onstage intimacy I've encountered.
