Yes to this play! Acker brilliantly exposes the endless affect of sexual harassment in a social media age where there seems to be no place left for women to be off limits. Excellent work.

Examines the rippling ramifications of sexual harassment--from the abuser, to those who worked alongside them, to those who barely knew them (but depended on them for employment)--and how online backlash affects each member of this ecosystem. Acker empathetically examines the roots of toxic masculinity without downplaying its devastating effects, and offers a nuanced meditation on how one's stance on whether to burn a system down or try to change it from the inside can shift when that system gets personal. This play nails the #MeToo moment, yet is timeless in exploring how we best achieve...

Fresh and timely. Exciting to imagine the different ways the script can be realized. Thought provoking and a great ending.

  • Azuka Theatre: Boycott Esther

This is an extraordinary play. Emily has made the personal political and vice versa in this topical, yet timeless play. Funny, smart and achingly intimate, Boycott Esther moved our audiences in a way I've rarely seen in my 20 years of making theater. I was so proud Azuka Theatre was able to give this remarkable play its first production, and the Philadelphia theater community agreed as the play won the Barrymore Award for Outstanding New Play. Read this play...PRODUCE this play, you won't be sorry!

Love this play that delves not only into sexual predation but important Hollywood a-holes but also into the nature of social media and the disconnects in all of our lives because of it - I love the final scene for so many reasons that I won't mention so as not to give it all away, but read this play! Produce this play! Love this play!

Emily’s play feels both familiar in that ripped-from-the-headlines kind of way, as well as wildly fresh, revealing and enlightening. She has an incredible talent for theatricality and staging, each page is packed with inventive choices and devices to bring this story to the stage.

A vital play! This needs to be staged now. The writer tackles one of our most urgent social issues with a stunningly theatrical display of humor, compassion, insight and provocation. Highly recommend!!

Besides being an important play that addresses a relevant social issue, it's a play that pushes the boundaries. Social media and online communication is hard to convey on stage but it's part of our lives. Acker is holding a mirror up to nature by making a play all about impersonal relationships. So excited this is being done at Azuka next year and excited to see a director dig into the form and content of this challenging piece.
