I LOVE this play! So relatable and sweet! Wonderful characters, wonderful problems, wonderful 13 year old Tommy caught between her parents at that awful age of 13! And HP - huge fan here! This play gives me all the feels!

This script really speaks to my inner 13-year-old. A great coming-of-age story with a touch of magic!

I really love Berryman's use of fanfic here. It becomes a delightful extended metaphor for coming of age, emergent sexuality, and the journey young people undergo as they learn to understand and interpret the world around them. Tommie's family is rendered beautifully and revelations come at a steady and engaging clip. The friendship between Tommie and Pat is also real and messy and a joy to watch unfold.

A terrific piece about coming of age, finding refuge in fantasy and magic. Very sweet.

"Three Year Summer" captures so clearly the struggles of being thirteen: wanting both privacy and your family, wanting both a crush and a friend, and in everything, not being totally sure which is which or which is more important. It's wonderful to see the way that Tommie eventually finds her confidence and that magic can only take you so far, but the magic of writing and of using your voice go even farther.

I was lucky to catch a reading of Three Year Summer at Kitchen Dog Theater’s New Works Festival. Berryman has written a fantastic play taking audiences way back to the time when we all waited with eager anticipation for the 5th Harry Potter book and a new broadband internet that doesn't tie up the phone line. Tommi and Pat’s relationship is absolutely adorable and perfectly captures the awkwardness of adolescence…even the weird parts.

Had the joy of seeing a virtual reading of this script through Kitchen Dog Theatre. For the first time since quarantine began, I felt actually engaged and invested in a virtual reading, so I can only imagine the stage magic Berryman's script will bind with a live audience. These characters are so alive, so electric, and so achingly human that we can't help but want them to succeed in these pivotal moments of teen-hood. This play reminds us what the value of pop culture is and how we all deserve the experience of youthful dreams.

I loved this play. It made me feel like I was 11 years old again sneaking down to the computer room to fire up the Harry Potter message boards on neopets.com. Amy perfectly captured the terrible "please don't look at me or I'll die" embarrassment that comes with being 13 and the wonderful anticipation of being a part of something you truly love. Having just finished it, I'm about to start it over and read it all again (like the Harry Potter books).

Not a Harry Potter reader or fan but have heard enough to know we all benefited from having an HP inside of us at 13 (and forever since). Great story of dysfunction overshadowed by the strength of relationship. Loved!

I absolutely adore this play. Berryman has captured the awkwardness and joy of adolescent nerdiness without judgement or condescension. I even teared up! Because of fanfiction! What a wonderful joyous read.
